Did recently have a baby and are feeling overwhelmed, sad, or scared about the thoughts you are having? You are not alone! The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that in 2017, 17.2 million Americans suffered from a major depressive episode. You deserve to find a way out of this darkness, so please reach out for help.

anxiety

Anxiety comes in many forms, and like a thief in the night, it can rob you of any sense of peace and contentment. Do you feel worried, restless, tired, irritable, or unable to focus? Are you having panic attacks? The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that 19.1% of Americans struggle with anxiety disorders. This has become a cultural epidemic. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidenced-based treatment that is very effective in addressing anxiety. Please do yourself a favor, and reach out for help!

Trauma

Have you experienced traumatic events such as exposure to death, serious injuries, or sexual violence? These experiences in childhood or adulthood can cause symptoms such as intrusive and disturbing thoughts, nightmares, avoidance of people or places that trigger painful memories, changes in mood, irritability, angry outbursts, or sleep disturbances. you’re more resilient than you think

One December, I found this rose in my garden and was taken by its bold statement of resilience. Such a delicate beauty facing the winter elements with courage and insistence to persevere. I could not help but think of the verse from Bette Midler’s song The Rose:

“When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long

And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows

Lies the seed, that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose.”

Though we may at times in our lives feel like the seed beneath the bitter snows, we each have the innate power within us to become the rose.
